Who Was The Father of Dental Hygiene?
Dr. Alfrred Fones (1869-1938) of Bridgeport, Connecticut, is widely considered the father of dental hygiene. He believed that teaching basic oral hygiene measures could prevent many problmes from occurring the first place.
Educating patients was very time consuming, thus, Fones trained his office assistant to provide the education. It was from this situation that the idea of dental hygienists and their schooling evolved.
