Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous Oxide was discovered by English scientist Joseph Priestly in 1793. It was popularized by Humphry Davy, who coined the term “laughing gas” after observing those who inhaled it. It was originally used recreationally. It wasn’t until the 1840’s that dentists began administering it to their patients. However, it did not gain popularity until the 1860’s. Today, nitrous oxide is widely accepted and widely used by dentists. It is safe for most people, except for those with severe pulmonary disease or mental disorders.
