How to Pay for Dental Care

Dental care is just as important as any other type of routine health care. Unfortunately, it’s also just as expensive, and often, dental insurance doesn’t cover as much as health insurance would cover for a medical illness. In fact, you may not have any dental insurance at all. So, what are your options for paying for dental care?

If you don’t have dental insurance, you should apply for Care Credit. This is a third party finance company that gets your dental care paid for. You then make small monthly payments to the finance company for the dental work. The dentist is paid and happy, you are smiling and happy, and of course the finance company is happy because they make money from interest that they charge you – although that interest is quite reasonable. You can apply for Care Credit online, or through your dentist’s office.

If for some reason you do not qualify for Care Credit, the next option is to call your dentists office to discuss making payment arrangements for your dental care. If you’ve been a patient for a while, your dentist may work with you – however this is not common for new patients.

Failing this, depending on the dental situation that you have, you could get an estimate of the cost of the work that needs to be done, and start saving the money to get it done – or seek financing through another finance company or bank for the work.

If this isn’t possible, you may need to check with your state licensing agency to find out about dental schools in your area, where the same work can be performed at a much lower cost. In some instances, the work will even be free. Many communities also have charity programs to help those in need with their dental expenses.
