Orthodontia

Orthodontics, developed during the 1880’s and is the combined result of many practitioners’ work. Pierre Fauchard was the first major authority to write about the subject in his book, The Surgeon Dentist: A Treatise on Teeth.” Another French dentist, Etiene Bourdet (1722-1789), wrote the other major work on orthodontics, The Dentist’s Art. J.N. Farr wrote a work entitled, “A Treatise on the Irregularities of the Teeth and Their Corrections. He designed dental brace appliances and was the first person to suggest applying mild force for periods of time to move teeth.
Edward H. Angle (1855-1930) was the first person to identify the various kinds of malocclusions (uneven teeth). His system helped dentists describe how crooked teeth were and how each tooth fit together. He started the first school of orthodontics in St. Louis in 1901. Recent developments in orthodontics include lighter materials, removable braces and more comfortable braces.
Zia Chishti, invented the newest technique in orthodontics, Invisalign braces. They are transparent, removable, molded braces. They are a series of removable braces worn in succession.
